LanzaJet, KazMunayGas-Aero, and KazFoodProducts Launch Feasibility Study for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Plant in Kazakhstan

Leveraging Its Ethanol-to-SAF Technology, LanzaJet Explores Next-Generation SAF Production in Central Asia
CHICAGO, April 3, 2025 – LanzaJet, Inc., a leading sustainable fuels technology company, today announced a new feasibility study aimed at developing the first SAF production facility in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In partnership with KazMunayGas-Aero LLP (a subsidiary of JSC NC KazMunayGas) and KazFoodProducts LLP, the initiative will assess key technical and economic parameters to pave the way for a groundbreaking facility that brings sustainable fuels solutions to Central Asia.
“Expanding our SAF technology into new, high-potential regions is central to LanzaJet’s mission to decarbonize aviation worldwide and provide for new capabilities in energy security and energy independence,” said Jimmy Samartzis, Chief Executive Officer of LanzaJet. “Our proven alcohol-to-jet process offers a scalable and commercially viable pathway for converting renewable ethanol into low-carbon intensity jet fuel. This feasibility study is a critical step in exploring how our technology can drive sustainable fuel production in Kazakhstan.”
As the aviation industry accelerates the transition to alternative fuels, the study will examine optimal plant locations, production capacities, and integration strategies, including future blending opportunities with conventional jet fuel supplied by local refineries. LanzaJet’s participation underscores its commitment to leveraging innovative technology to unlock new markets and support global decarbonization goals.
The collaboration is particularly timely as Kazakhstan positions itself to become a regional hub, in line with national strategies to boost air transit potential and achieve carbon neutrality under the Paris Agreement. With KazFoodProducts’ expertise in bioethanol production and local feedstock processing, combined with the readiness of KazMunayGas-Aero’s refineries, the project offers a promising opportunity to create a competitive SAF supply that meets the growing demands of international air carriers.
“Working in partnership with one of the largest companies in Kazakhstan allows us to extend the reach of our SAF technology,” added Samartzis. “We are excited to help drive forward a project that not only supports the nation’s strategic economic and environmental objectives but also reinforces our commitment to pioneering solutions that transform the aviation fuel landscape.”
By spearheading this feasibility study, LanzaJet continues to demonstrate its leadership in the transition to sustainable aviation, ensuring that cleaner, renewable fuels remain at the forefront of global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of air travel.
